Drawings

While life drawing is a means of getting information, especially about the form and structure of the human body, it is also another form of making, which is leading to the recent development of finished works, shown alongside the sculpture. The relationship between mark-making and the construction of three-dimensional objects offers more than information and visual note taking. The integration, for example of a torn collage process, can connect directly to the construction of slab-built clay objects, offering ideas about the fragmentary nature of existence, its story-telling and mythologies, while the favoured use of oil-based charcoal and chalks allows larger-scale dynamism and depth to inform the drawn works.
